ABOUT US

The Old Bridge is an eighteenth century hotel in Huntingdon, a few miles north of Cambridge. Within the hotel is a wine shop. It runs like any other shop but with the advantages of an on-site restaurant; being open 9am-10pm daily; having a great tasting set up (see 'Shop Tastings' page).

We are able to offer both everyday drinking and some of the world’s rarest wines which are often made in tiny quantities and only sold to restaurants. Unlike normal merchants, we cellar our fine wines until ready to drink. This website also lists some of the many wines we have bought in advance, which we will list in the restaurant when mature. The restaurant at the Old Bridge has twice won the AA award for best UK wine list.
The Hotel and Wine Shop are owned by John Hoskins MW. John became a Master of Wine in 1994 (the same year he bought the hotel) winning the Bollinger Medal for the best tasting result. He is now in charge of setting the MW tasting exam. His office is at the back of the shop so you can catch him there when around - and you can book him for tutored tastings in the hotel.
Shop Manager is Stuart Frampton from Melbourne, Australia. Stuart has been at the Old Bridge since 2004 and is currently doing his Diploma exam. Not surprisingly perhaps, his first loves are Shiraz and Chardonnay, but his tastes have been broadened by trips to Chablis, the Cote D'Or, Champagne, Tuscany, the Rhone and the Douro
Liz Pendered does all the wine shop admin and runs the shop every weekday morning. LIz is a big claret fan, but Stuart is gradually convincing her of the virtues of the 'New World'! She is currently doing her Wine and Spirit Advanced Course.
Peter Foran joined the team in January 2012, working in the shop several sessions a week. After 30 years with the RAF, wine seems like a much more civilised occupation, especially for someone also renovating a house in southern Burgundy.
Greg Pevy worked with our good friend Anne Cotton at her excellent shoe shop in Oundle, throughout his student years. He decided to stay in retail and now works with us full time as Stuart's assistant. Greg's favourite style is Rioja but his horizons are expanding rapidly
We are also helped out by Jan Howson, long-standing supervisor of the Old Bridge bar. And of course Nina (who runs the hotel) and her team are in and out of the shop all the time......

At The Old Bridge Wine Shop we have some very simple aims: to be friendly and helpful; and to stay open-minded about wine. We all believe that the most exciting wine is the next one we are about to try. We hope to introduce you to new and interesting bottles, at all price levels.
