2001 CHARDONNAY, Giaconda. Beechworth, Victoria, Australia
Alcohol Percentage: 14.5%
Area: Beechworth in north eastern Victoria, former gold mine country, now produces brilliant limited production wines in a relatively cool climate
Producer: Rick Kinzbrunner set up Giaconda in 1982, first vintage 1987. Just 6 hectares (12 acres). See press below
Cellar Potential: 2006-2016
Old Bridge Rating: A firm style, still quite young and fresh
Press Reviews: Of many column inches, just a few:
"There are certainly Australian Chardonnays with a cult following. A prime example is Giaconda from the high Ovens Valley in Victoria, made in tiny quantities and difficult to run to earth. This is the sort of wine Americans call funky, i.e. far from the production-line technical perfection that is the Australian norm. It needs time to show it's fascinating best". Jancis Robinson, FT
£66.03 per bottle in a mixed case
