882. 2009 NUITS ST GEORGES, Vieilles Vignes, Rion. Burgundy (Magnum)
Alcohol Percentage: 13%
Area: Nuits St Georges produces some of the most serious, long-lived and 'austere' wines in Burgundy. Sadly they are often drunk too young just because of the fame of the appellation. This example comes from vines planted in 1971 in the vineyard of Les Plateaux, to the northern end of the appellation, near Vosne
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir, matured in oak (50% new) for 18 months
Producer: Patrice Rion was winemaker at his family's domaine (Daniel Rion) but in 200 broken out on his own (with wife Michèle). They have 6 hectares of their own vines in Nuits St Georges and Chambolle, but also buy in grapes for their negociant label (Patrice Rion). Since 2005 they have been joined by their son Maxime
Old Bridge Rating: Still young, but 2009 is a year of ripe and 'forward' Burgundy
