758. 2013 PINOT NOIR, Manchester Ridge, Red Car. Mendocino, California
Alcohol Percentage: 13.2%
Area: Mendocino is in northern California and the Manchester Ridge vineyard is very close to the ocean - hence the cool climate situation that suits Pinot Noir so well
Grape Variety: 100% Pnot Noir matured in French oak for a year but, most unusually, no new oak
Producer: Red Car only started making wine in 2001. It is owned by Carroll Kemp (also the winemaker), David Martin and Richard Crowell and run by Peter Willmert. The winery name is a tribute to trolley cars that serviced Los Angeles through the first half of the 20th century - "it serves as a reminder of our original connection to the City of Angels, the place that inspired our founders to dream."
Old Bridge Rating: A rather beautiful expression of modern Pinot Noir - restrained and hedonistic at the same time
