878. 2010 AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA, Prà. Veneto, Italy (Magnum)Organic
Alcohol Percentage: 17%
Area: Valpolicella is north east of Verona, just above Soave. Gently rolling hills are whwre the best vineyards are all located - as in Soave the plonk comes from the flats
Grape Variety: Corvina, with a small percentage of each of Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta; all air-dried for 2 months before fermentation; then matured briefly in 2/3 large, old oak barrels and one third smaller French barriques, for 3 years in total
Producer: Prà are one of 3 or 4 top quality producers in Soave and also have vineyards in Valpolicella - in both areas they are helping to gradually restore the reputation of these area. For years the large producers have produced innocuous wine of no consequence. Now the smaller estates (and even 1 or 2 co-operatives) are showing just what Garganega and Corvina can achieve given the chance
Old Bridge Rating: Extraordinarily powerful. Share between 4 (minimum)
