336. 2013 MINIMAL, Gruner Veltliner, Sepp Moser. Kremstal, AustriaOrganic
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: The estate is based in Rohrendorf, about 70km west of Vienna, very close to the Danube.
The vineyards for this wine are certified BIODYNAMIC.
Grape Variety: 100% Gruner, fermented and matured in oak without the use of any sulphur dioxide
Producer: The Moser family have been making wine since 1848. The current winemaker, since 2000 is Nikolaus Moser, and he converted the winery to organics in 2008. He is now certified Biodynamic, by Demeter. His grandfather was the famous Dr. Lenz Moser, who in the 1950s developed and gae his name to a high vine-training system; he was one of the first to examine viticulture with scientific precision.
Old Bridge Rating: One of the few really convincing "natural wines" made today. No oxidation (the normal problem). Retention of the 'lees' during maturation seems to help the wine resist bacteria and oxygen. It's weird, a bit like an orange wine, but it's complex and genuinely interesting
