2009 CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE, Loichet. Burgundy

Bin:  709

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Organic

Area:

The hill of Corton is a ‘Grand Cru’ site on the Côte de Beaune, firstly for the renowned white Corton Charlemagne but also, to a lesser extent, for reds, of which there are several Grand Cru appellations.
The whole hill actually straddles 3 different villages (Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe Corton and Ladoix) and this great vineyard covers land in the first 2. Loichet has a small patch of 50+ year old vines in the Pernand section, facing west.

Grape variety:

Chardonnay, gently pressed, fermented with natural yeast and matured in oak (50% new) for 9 months.

Producer:

Sylvain Loichet has run his small family domaine (just 3.5 hectares of vines that were bought by his grandparents) since 2005. The cellar is in Chorey-Les-Beaune.

Maturity potential:

Should be mature by 2024 but will hold for 5-10 years beyond that.

Old Bridge rating:

Rather typical Corton Charlemagne (despite the warm 2009 vintage); this is firm and serious, still needing time to reach its peak.
Only 6 bottles in stock.
