2017 ASSYRTIKO, Domaine Lyrarakis. Crete
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: Lyrarakis are in east-central Crete, a little south and east of Heraklion.
Grape Variety: Assyrtiko, the great grape of Santorini, here grown on Crete. Fermented cool and bottled young.
Producer: Lyrarakis Estate is a family-owned business, started in 1966. It single-handedly 'saved' there indigenous grape varieties (Dafni, Plyto and Melissaki).
Old Bridge Rating: Assyrtiko from Santorini is expensive and sought-after. This is a great value alternative. Hints of smokey complexity, in a lemony-fresh and lively shell.
