ROSÉ

Rosé - ROSA DEI FRATI, Ca dei Frati. Veneto, Italy

2011 ROSA DEI FRATI, Ca dei Frati. Veneto, Italy

Alcohol Percentage: 13%
Area: The official designation is 'Riviera del Garda Bresciano' - in other words it's rosé from Lake Garda, near Verona (beautiful town, renowned as the setting for Rome and Juliet)
Grape Variety: 60% Groppello, 15% Marzemino, 15% Sangiovese, 10% Barbera
Producer: The Dal Cero family, for many years the leading estate in the area. They also make a delicious white 'Lugana' - look out for it in good London restaurants
Cellar Potential: Drink within 2 years
Food Match: Inevitably one thinks Italian - this could be one of the few wines to cope with the old classic of Parma ham and melon; or even better with the rather posher 'Piedmontese peppers"
Old Bridge Rating: The complete rosé: pale and dry; somehow combining complexity and intensity without losing drinkability. Rosé tends to go one way or the other (light and simple or complex and a bit too heavy) and rarely gets the balance this right
