2011 Now finished: PINOT NOIR, The Edge, Escarpment. Martinborough, NZ
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: Martinborough is at the southern tip of New Zealand's North Island. A cool area, ideal for Pinot, first made famous by Larry McKenna when at Martinborough Vineyards, and Clive Paton at Ata Rangi. The other key to the area is the high gravel content in the soil
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir
Producer: 'The Edge' is the name given to the affordable range from Larry McKenna's Escarpment winery. Larry was dubbed 'The Prince of Pinot'; all his wines are made with intelligence and sensitivity - the antithesis of factory-made stuff now flooding the market
Food Match: Lighter New World Pinots are very versatile with food. Low in tannin but quite high in acidity (freshness) they can work with vegetables, fish and meat. The Edge would be perfect with a lightly spiced chicken stir-fry
Old Bridge Rating: Made by Larry Mckenna, one of the great names in New World Pinot, from a region with a proven track-record for this most tricky of varietals. This is bright and lively with real 'purity'
