POWERFUL REDS; NEW WORLD (UNDER £15)

2010 CARMENERE-CABERNET, Novas. Colchagua Valley, Chile
Organic
Alcohol Percentage: 14.5%
Area: Colchagua Valley is 150km's south of Santiago, one of Chile's best areas for full-bodied reds
Grape Variety: 80% Carmenere, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, half aged in French oak for 10 months
Producer: Made by Emiliana, one of the world’s largest producers of Organic and Biodynamic wines (250 hectares organic, 250 more being converted currently). Consultant is the renowned organic expert Alvaro Espinosa
Cellar Potential: Now-2015
Food Match: The backbone of Carmenere makes it a good food wine, unlike so many new world reds which are just too 'sweet'. This would be great with mature lamb
Old Bridge Rating: Carmenere is a genetic relation of Merlot and shares the latter's full body and lush texture. It can however be overly 'vegetal' and somewhat rough. This is certainly robust, but the vibrant, intense fruit is dominant
Press Reviews: Silver Medal, UK Sommelier Wine Awards 2011
