2008 BARBERA, Seghesio. Sonoma County, California
Alcohol Percentage: 15.5%
Area: Seghesio are based in Healdsburg, Sonoma Valley. Their Barbera is planted on the Home Ranch vineyard in Alexander Valley (a sub-region of Sonoma)
Grape Variety: 100% Barbera, aged for 11 months in French oak (40% new oak)
Producer: For decades the Seghesio family, like many Italian immigrants, simply grew grapes for sale to other wineries. The switch to winemaking has been a huge success. They specialize in Zinfandel and a host of rarely seen Italian varieties. The Barbera (Piedmont's most planted grape) is the best of these
Cellar Potential: 2012 - 2019
Old Bridge Rating: Barbera's naturally high acidity makes it a great success in warm climates. A rather amazing combination of intense berry fruit and lively freshness. Not a wine for traditionalists, but something genuinely exciting for those of us who have embraced modern styles!
