BORDEAUX (OVER £15)

Bordeaux - Château LANGOA BARTON, 3me Cru. Saint-Julien

2000 Château LANGOA BARTON, 3eme Cru. Saint-Julien

Alcohol Percentage: 12.5%
Area: Langoa has 25 hectares, south of the Barton and Poyferré sections of the Léoville triumvirate, between the villages of Beychevelle and St Julien. The soil is typical of the Médoc, predominately gravel over deep clay
Grape Variety: 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc; 20 months in oak (half new oak)
Producer: The estates of Langoa and Léoville have both been owned by the Barton family for nearly two centuries, the longest period of single-family ownership in Bordeaux. Hugh Barton bought Pontet-Langlois in 1821 and turned it into Langoa. Anthony Barton took over in 1986 and has been responsible for the consistently high quality and fair pricing for which both Châteaux have become known. Langoa is invariably lighter and more 'forward' than Léoville
Cellar Potential: 2012-2022
Old Bridge Rating: Langoa is usually medium-bodied and under-stated. This, however is there most powerful wine, perhaps ever. Still young, but decanted before drinking it already shows intensity, elegance and charm
Press Reviews: 94 points Wine Spectator, 91 points Robert Parker.
"Dense, youthful, impressive colour - as with so many of the 2000s. Toasty oak, blackcurrant oil, fruit gum sweetness. On the palate, elegance and balance are in place, despite the wealth of fruit, tannin and acidity. Concentrated. Brilliant. One for the cellar; may well need something approaching two decades to show its best. 17+/20 (October 2004)" - www.winedoctor.com
