2009 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, Senechaux. Rhône (Half Bottle)
Alcohol Percentage: 14.5%
Area: The most famous village in the southern Rhône, named after a new palace built for Pope John XXII in the 14th century. In 1923 it became the first region to adopt a system of regulations to ensure quality - this became the basis for the Appellation Contrôlée system for the rest of France. Its broad, ripe, spicy style (and its easily pronounceable name) has made it a favourite in both the UK and the US
Food Match: All Châteauneuf is broad and spicy and great with winter casseroles, soups and roasts. A wine like this one has the softness and freshness to work with a baked potato and salad, with a piece of cheese, or even just by the fireside on its own
Press Reviews: "The sexy, full-bodied, dense garnet-colored 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape reveals abundant aromas of kirsch, plums, figs and black fruits, a lavish texture, an opulent mouthfeel and a long finish. There is not a hard edge to be found in this silky Chateauneuf. Drink it over the next decade.
Score: 93" - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
