2010 CÔTES DU RHÔNE, Bouquet des Garrigues, Le Clos du Caillou
Organic
Alcohol Percentage: 14.5%
Area: This is made from the vines literally right next to the borders of Châteauneuf du Pape, the most important village in the southern Rhône, the vineyards scattered with the famous 'galets' (large stones) which retain the heat in the soil
Grape Variety: 85% Grenache (over 50 years old), 10% Syrah plus a sprinkling of Muscardin, Cinsault and Counoise; all aged in old wood for 15 months
Producer: Clos du Caillou is a 45 hectare estate in Châteauneuf du Pape, making brilliant wine balancing the best of traditional and modern (we have bought a big parcel of their 2009s). It is run by Sylvie Vacheron, following the tragic early death of her husband Jean-Denis in 2002. They are organic and now converting to biodynamism
Cellar Potential: Now - 2015
Food Match: Honest enough for simple roasts; robust enough for more flavoursome casseroles or grills
Old Bridge Rating: A mini Châteauneuf du Pape if ever there was one; broad and spicy, ripe and generous. A bargain at this price
£14.20 per bottle in a mixed case
£13.46 per bottle in an un-mixed case
