2010 Now finished: IZADI BLANCO. Rioja, Spain
Alcohol Percentage: 13%
Area: Izadi are in Rioja Alavesa, the higher, cooler part of this most famous of Spanish regions (which is itself in northern Spain), with white, limestone soils
Grape Variety: 80% Viura, 20% Malvasia; fermented and then matured for four months in new oak barrels (80% American oak; 20% French)
Producer: Izadi have over 180 hectares of vineyards and produce fresh, clean, relatively modern wines
Cellar Potential: 2010-1015
Food Match: Drink as you would a lighter Burgundy - predictably good with fish or white meats
Old Bridge Rating: Much white Rioja is either light and bland or extreme in its oakiness (see the Tondonia example!). This is a nice balance between the extremes
