FRESH, DRY WHITES, OVER £10

Fresh, dry whites, over £10 - GRUNER VELTLINER, Kies, Kurt Angerer. Niederösterreich, Austria

2011 GRÜNER VELTLINER, Kies, Kurt Angerer. Niederösterreich, Austria

Alcohol Percentage: 12.5%
Area: Angerer are based in Kamptal (vineyards are around the river Kamp), the most important region for top quality Riesling and Gruner outside the Wachau. Kies refers to the gravel in this particular vineyard.
Grape Variety: Grüner Veltliner - Austria's speciality. Can be light and zesty or rich and intense. Has received huge international acclaim over the last 10 years
Producer: Family-owned estate for 150 years, run by Kurt since 1996. 40 hectares in total
Cellar Potential: 2012-2015 (could be kept younger, but made as a style to drink young)
Food Match: Really good match for lightly spiced dishes, for punchily-flavoured seafood (particularly potted shrimps or crab with chilli)
Old Bridge Rating: Green apple zestiness with a hint of white pepper and smoke. Grüner is the trendy restaurant grape of the moment. On it's own it's dry, light and under-stated; drink it with food and see its subtle charms come alive
