2006 VILLACRECES. Ribera Del Duero, Spain
Organic
Alcohol Percentage: 14%
Area: Ribera del Duero (inland, Spanish section of the Douro, home to Port) is now accepted as Spain's finest wine region. Finca Villacreces is located in Quintanilla de Onesimo on the "golden mile" of the region, bordered by the River Duero to the north and by Vega Sicilia to the west. The vineyards are a mixture of soils: sandy, gravel, shingle and quartz
Grape Variety: 95% Tempranillo, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon; aged for 16 months in French oak (half new)
Producer: Recently purchased by Lalo Anton of Izadi, the property has 60 hectares of vineyard. Currently affordable, prices are likely to rise sharply as the reputation grows.
Organic, but not yet certified as such.
Cellar Potential: 2011-2018
Old Bridge Rating: Classic Ribera - a combination of Spanish softness and a backbone reminiscent of serious Bordeaux
Press Reviews: "Purple-coloured, the aromatics reveal notes of mocha, coffee, smoke, violets, spice box, wild cherry and blackberry. Smooth textured, layered, and well balanced, this (is a) superb effort -" 93 points, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
"From vineyards on the 'golden mile' next to Vega Sicilia, this Tempranillo Cabernet blend has rich, warm fruit, textured earthiness and very good length" - 'Steven Spurrier Recommends' - Decanter Magazine June 2012
£23.70 per bottle in a mixed case
