2010 ST JOSEPH, (white), Pierre Gaillard. Rhône
Alcohol Percentage: 14.5%
Area: St Joseph is a strangely disparate vineyard area, strung out along much of the northern Rhône Valley. The best reds are intense and serious examples of Syrah. The whites are normally based on a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, but this wine, unusually, only uses the latter. Grapes come from vineyards in the village of Malleval, high up above the river. The wine is organic but not yet certified as such
Grape Variety: 100% Roussanne, aged in oak for 6 months
Producer: Pierre Gaillard also makes fine Viognier and Syrah in the Rhône, as well as some excellent southern wines at Domaine Madeloc in Collioure
Old Bridge Rating: Rare example of pure Roussanne. At least a hint of exotic Viognier-like aroma (apricot, peach) and a rich, mouth-filling palate
£20.90 per bottle in a mixed case
£19.80 per bottle in an un-mixed case
