NEW WORLD PINOT NOIR (OVER £15)
![]() |
2009 PINOT NOIR RESERVE, Cape Chamonix. Franschhoek, South Africa
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: Franschhoek is a great town for tourists but has only recently started making great wine, as producers look beyond the valley floor to the less fertile hillsides
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir, aged in French oak for a year (just a small proportion of new oak)
Producer: Gottfried Mocke is the alarmingly talented winemaker at Cape Chamonix and has taken them from average to excellent in a very short time. Watch the prices (sadly) rocket as they become better and better known in the next few years. All wines come from the estate's own 50 heactares
Cellar Potential: At its best 2011-2015
Old Bridge Rating: Not as big and powerful as the top names in SA Pinot (Bouchard Finlayson and Hamilton Russell) but perhaps more impressive considering the price. Medium-bodied, fine and elegant style
£16.63 per bottle in a mixed case
£15.75 per bottle in an un-mixed case
