2010 ROUSSANNE-VERMENTINO, Domaine de Mus. Pays D'Oc, France
Alcohol Percentage: 12.5%
Grape Variety: Roussanne (classic Rhône grape) and Vermentino (locally known as Rolle; more important in Italy, esp. Sardinia). Bottled young to retain freshness
Producer: This is a new project by Bernard Julien, who also has the Domaine de Bachellery near Béziers, on the Langudoc coast between Montpellier and Carcassone. This is the the home of Grenache, Carignan and a host of other southern varieties. Domaine de Mus is intelligently stretching the boundaries by promoting some of the indigenous but overlooked examples
Old Bridge Rating: Clever use of two excellent but under-appreciated grape varieties. Roussanne gives backbone and freshness; Vermentino an aromatic, herby character
