2011 NEGROAMARO, Lamadoro. Puglia, Italy
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: Salento is a sub-region of Puglia in the heel of Italy, now well known for the red wine of Salice Salentino. It's a hot and dry area but cooled by sea breezes
Grape Variety: Negroamaro litterally means dark and bitter, but the emphasis nowadays is on dark rather than bitter! It is matured without oak to retain freshness
Producer: Grapes come from a local co-operative, but the wine is made by the talented Filippo Baccalaro who also oversees production for wineries in Campania and Abruzzo. His intention is to re-interpret classic, native grapes in a modern style
Cellar Potential: Now-2015
Food Match: Light enough to use as an 'everyday red', but even better (of course) with pasta or a barbecue
Old Bridge Rating: Juicy, modern fruit with a hint of Morello cherry bitterness, allied to zesty, spicy, herbal complexity that marks it out as classically Italian
£9.45 per bottle in a mixed case
£8.96 per bottle in an un-mixed case
