Elqui Valley is the northernmost valley in Chile. Logically that would mean the hottest, but cool Pacific ocean breezes make it a relatively cool area.
Carmenere, 60% of it air-dried for 2 months before pressing (Amarone style); aged in (old) American oak for 8 months.
Falernia is the only winery in Elqui, although others have planted vineyards. Owner Giorgio Flessati makes a very European style of Syrah (and Sauvignon Blanc), although this is a much richer, very ‘new world’ wine.
