POWERFUL REDS; NEW WORLD (UNDER £15)

2009 SHIRAZ ‘THE SACK’, Magpie Estate. Barossa Valley, Australia
Alcohol Percentage: 14%
Area: The Barossa Valley - warm climate area now famous worldwide for its intensely ripe and spicy, no compromise Shiraz-based wines. This is from 7 different vineyards, in Ebenezer and Greenock
Grape Variety: 95% Shiraz, 5% Grenache from Hearnden; all aged in American oak (about half new)
Producer: Magpie Estate is a joint venture between Rolf Binder of Veritas estate and the excellent English wine merchant Noel Young. Their wines are quintessential Barossa, jam-packed with flavour
Cellar Potential: 2013-2019
Food Match: Big red wine for big, rich food. I can't think of any red meat dish that would not be a good match for this wine. The real issue is to be sure you like this kind of luscious and full-throttle style of red
Old Bridge Rating: The impressive 'big brother' of the Beak - this delivers everything that most people want in an Aussie Shiraz; richness, texture and character
£14.20 per bottle in a mixed case
£13.46 per bottle in an un-mixed case
