2016 AVNI PINOT NOIR, Lingua Franca. Oregon, USA

Bin:  445

Alcohol percentage:  13.5%

Area:

Oregon is the relatively cool-climate northern neighbour of California; a green and beautiful environment well suited for the demands of fickle Pinot Noir.
“The majority of fruit comes from our Eola-Amity Hills neighbors, but some Hyland Vineyard fruit was added this year to the AVNI blend, increasing the fruit intensity”.

Grape variety:

Pinot Noir, a third fermented as whole bunches, matured for a year in French oak (20% new wood).

Producer:

A collaboration (since 2015) between Oregon’s own Larry Stone and Burgundy’s Dominique Lafon.
The vineyards are worked organically but the wine is not certified organic as in California this would mean no SO2, which would be silly (of course). It’s organic by European standards.

Old Bridge rating:

Just reaching perfect maturity, this is wild, savoury, complex Pinot – Oregon at its very best, with Burgundian complexity.
