2019 BOURGOGNE BLANC. CLOS du CHÂTEAU, DOMAINE de MONTILLE, Burgundy.
Bin: 225
Alcohol percentage: 13.5%
Domaine de Montille is nearly 300 years old although the present Domaine we know was formally named as such in 1863.
The vines are from an enclosed 4.5ha plot at the foot of the Château de Puligny Montrachet situated just outside the AOC of Puligny Montrachet (hence labelled as Bourgogne Blanc).
The present owner winemaker is Etienne de Montille who took over from his father Hubert in 1990. He was also an astute buyer of vineyards (not doubt from his formal legal training) and has grown the Domaine to 37has (over 35 different AOCs) in size from just 3has!
Barrel fermented in a mix of 600 and 228 litre casks (around 10% new), with light toasting, for around 12 months this wine has all the precision and focus applied to more famous appellation origins.
Bright stone fruit flavours with delicate citrus notes, elevated acidity, and a mineral note and touch of oak.
Perfect to drink now, not least as 2019 was a warm and open vintage – serve not too chilled – but will keep well for another 2-3 years.
