2021 CARMENÈRE. Undurraga “TH” Peumo, Cachapoal, Chile.
Bin: 493
Alcohol percentage: 14.0%
Vegan
Undurraga is one of Chile’s leading wineries with over 1,300 hectares of vineyards spread over numerous regions.
This wine is 100% Carmenère from a 4.05 hectare plot in Peumo to the west of the delimited Cachapoal district at around 170 metres in altitude.
Certified Sustainable winemaker Rafael Urrejola (no less than IWC “Red Winemaker of the Year 2023”) has developed a particularly interesting range of wines where he focuses very much on the aspect of terroir and the expression it brings into the wine – such as with the “Terroir Hunter” Carmenère featured.
This is a very fine example indeed of the Carmenère grape – originally from Bordeaux. Full bodied, rich, and savoury with deep black fruit flavours, a touch of green bell pepper and peppery spice notes. Long and savoury in nature and ideal for more robust and even spicy food pairings.
