2011 GEVREY CHAMBERTIN, 1er Cru Aux Combottes, Domaine Dujac (Half bottle)

Bin:  843

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Area:

Gevrey is the northernmost of the great villages of Burgundy. It is also the most reliable. Aux Combottes is a small Premier Cru vineyard right on the border of Morey St Denis (convenient for Morey-based Dujac). More importantly Combottes is sandwiched between Grand Cru Latricières Chambertin on one side and Grand Cru Clos de la Roche on the other. Hardly surprising it’s so sought after

Grape variety:

Pinot Noir

Producer:

Domaine Dujac has been owned and run by Jacques Syesses (pictured left) for over 40 years. His son Jeremy, with wife Diana, are now in charge. The domaine has been renowned for including 100% whole clusters in the vat, making for a highly aromatic but pale coloured style. This is today used more flexibly and the vineyards are now completely organic, although not certified as such.

Maturity potential:

In halves this is approachable now and will peak in about 2025 (full bottles would need a couple more years)

Old Bridge rating:

ONE ORIGINAL CASE OF 12 BOUGHT EN PRIMEUR FROM BERRY BROS AND KEPT IN OUR UNDERGROUND CELLAR UNTIL NOW.

Press review:

“Here the fruit is more deeply pitched with excellent nuance to the well-layered blue and black pinot fruit that also evidences hints of violets, earth and wet stone. There is a clean and polished mouth feel (in the best sense) to the energetic and saline-infused flavors that are shaped by ripe tannins on the mouth coating, dusty and balanced finish. As it often is, this is a wine of finesse yet it doesn’t lack for character and depth. Drink 2023+”. Allen Meadows, Burghound.
