2022 GRECO di TUFO. Vesevo. Campania, Italy

Bin:  132

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Area:

Vesevo is situated in the Irpinian hills of Campania. Known as the “Switzerland of the South”, this is one of Italy’s best, emerging, wine areas. The vineyards are planted between 450 and 550 metres above sea level and enjoy the cooling breezes which blow in off the Bay of Naples. This helps to maintain vital acid levels in what is a warm growing area. The soils are volcanic in nature.

Grape variety:

100% Greco

Producer:

Vesevo is part of the Cantina Fantini group. The group was founded in 1994 by Valentino Sciotti with the aim of producing top quality wine from Abruzzo. The company has since expanded into the South and Islands of Italy.

Acclaimed winemaker and consultant Alberto Antonini oversees production, ensuring these wines offer quality, varietal character, and value – but above all typicity and authenticity to both grape and regional origin. This applies very much to the Greco grape, which along with Fiano, are the finest indigenous white varietals of the Campania region.

Vintage:

Winemaker Antonio Melone is in specific charge of the Vesevo wines. The wine was fermented in stainless steel at 12-14°C, with blocked malolactic, and aged on lees for 3 months before bottling.

2022 was a warm vintage but some rain in August provided a respite and refreshed the vines. There was no issue with ripeness, but the grapes maintained remarkable levels of acidity, so overall a very good harvest.
