2021 MÂCON LOCHÉ, Domaine du Clos des Rocs, Olivier Giroux.
Bin: 216
Alcohol percentage: 13%
Organic
Domaine Olivier Giroux was established in 2002 when Olivier Giroux purchased the Clos des Rocs estate. They own 6ha in the Pouilly Loché region close to the renowned area of Pouilly Fuissé. This wine comes from a 1.6ha parcel in the enclave of Mâcon Loché and is run to certified organic practices.
The Chardonnay vines are an average age of 40 years and grown at an altitude of 230 metres on schist and sandy loam soils.
Grapes are hand harvested and fermented 90% in stainless steel, with 10% in 500hl French oak barrels where the wine ages on lees for 11 months, prior to blending the two component parts. The wine is unfined and unfiltered.
Beautifully textured (classical touches of Côte de Beaune), with really bright stone fruit flavours, lifted acidity, and mineral touches with a long finish.
Drink now – serve not too chilled – but will keep well for another 3-5 years.
