2022 VIOGNIER de CORTE. Bodega Garzon, Uruguay.

Bin:  140

Alcohol percentage:  12.5%

Organic

Area:

Alejandro Bulgheroni spent lavishly on developing a state-of-the-art winery and 240ha of parcel vineyards, located in Maldonado, on granite soils, on the Atlantic coast.

Under the guidance of consultant Alberto Antonini (of Antinori fame) and head winemaker Germán Bruzzone (both have been with the Bodega from the start) Bodega Garzón is broadly recognised as being the leading winery in the region. As importantly the winery is a LEED certified, fully self-sustainable operation.

Grape variety:

90% Viognier

10% Chardonnay

Producer:

Bodega Garzón is family owned by wealthy Argentine businessman Alejandro Bulgheroni, and his wife Bettina, who established the estate in 2009.

Vintage:

The Viognier comes from a blend (or de Corte) of parcel vineyard sites – all grown on granite soils – the wine was fermented in stainless steel with a further 3 months in tank on lees before bottling. There is a small proportion of Chardonnay (10%) – made in a similar manner – which adds a nice touch of texture.
