2016 VOSNE ROMANÉE Domaine Guyon, Burgundy

Bin:  760

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Organic

Area:

Vosne-Romanée – with the possible exception of Gevrey-Chambertin – has the highest concentration of Grand Cru vineyards of any village and is seen by many as the focal point and epitome of fine red Burgundy.

Grape variety:

100% Pinot Noir

Producer:

Domaine Guyon is owned and run by Jean-Pierre Guyon. Vines come from a small parcel of clay, calcium, and limestone soils with an average age of 60 years. The Domaine moved to organic farming over 20 years ago and were first fully accredited in 2012. The estate is now run on biodynamic principles.

Vintage:

2014 overall was a relatively cooler vintage than average with yields well down. Large parts of the Côte de Beaune were devastated by a hailstorm on the 28th June but Vosne-Romanée escaped untouched. August was wet but September was warm and dry, and the harvest took place in ideal conditions. Acid levels were firm, but the fruit flavours were ripe and bright.

Maturity potential:

Fully mature there is a nice balance of tertiary sous-bois notes with a bright red fruit core, acid lift, and a light mineral touch. There is elegance and a relatively delicate texture here. Drink now and over the next 18 months.
