814. 2010 GRÜNER VELTLINER, Ried Lamm, Bründlmayer. Austria (Half)
Alcohol Percentage: 14%
Area: Kamptal is less famous than the Wachau but produces many of Austria's top whites. In the UK Austria is at last being recognised as a great producing country
Grape Variety: 100% Grüner Veltliner, Austria's 'native' grape - capable of producing light, spritzy summer whites or, like this, a richer style with the dimension of a serious white Burgundy
Producer: Willi Bründlmayer has long been the leading producer in the Kamptal region. They have 75 hectares, mostly running along the Danube. The vineyards are ecologically sound; there are no herbicides used and only organic fertilisation; but when necessary they do have to spray against rot and mildew (it's a damp climate, hence it's hard to be completely organic)
Old Bridge Rating: A rich style of Gruner; comparable with a fine Chardonnay but without the oak. Intense but subtle
