2009 Now finished: CHARDONNAY, 'Kevin John', Cullen. Margaret River, Australia

Organic

Bin: 800
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: Margaret River is home to Australia's most serious, Burgundian Chardonnays. It's also a beautiful and hospitable place to visit, so put it on the wish-list....
Producer: Vanya Cullen's 2007 was voted best Chardonnay in the world in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2010. Her already exalted reputation is steadily rising (as are the prices) with each new vintage. Originally organic and now fully bio-dynamic (she will only pick and bottle when the moon is in the appropriate phase), she produces rich but sophisticated wine of evident class
Cellar Potential: At its best 2016-2022
Old Bridge Rating: Cullen's most Burgundian Chardonnay to date - mineral freshness and lots of 'backbone'.
Press Reviews: "17.5/20. Drink 2010-2015. Tight and creamy on the nose. Very fine and delicate and focused. Masses of youthful acidity. Doesn’t seem anywhere near ready. Basket press. Very fine." - www.jancisrobinson.com
"From an already vertigo-inducing high base, Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay has just got even better. The 2009 shows spicy cinnamon oak hints on the nose with perfumed, slinky pear on a lithe palate with zesty, lemon citrus acidity. It finishes long and limpid and, though possessed of a cool restraint, it has tremendous underlying fruit intensity – that muscularity - well supported by oak, used for structure not seasoning. An utterly compelling Chardonnay with a long life ahead." - thewinedetective.co.uk
