CHAMPAGNE AND OTHER SPARKLING WINES

Fizz - PROSECCO, 'Lampo', Borgoluce. Treviso, Italy

PROSECCO, 'Lampo', Borgoluce. Treviso, Italy

Alcohol Percentage: 11%
Area: Borgoluce are based in Corte Lavadigna, 45 miles due north of Venice. They have large vineyards in the area, taking in the hills between Susegana and Collalto. They make some wine from the more famous region of Valdobbiadene, but this represents much better value
Grape Variety: Glera (the relatively new name for the Prosecco grape), twice fermented in steel tank
Producer: Owned by the Collato family, Borgoluce are Prosecco specialists, but own a mixed farm also producing meat, salami, flour, cheese, oil and honey
Food Match: Off-dry (there is 12g/l residual sugar) so it's really easy to drink on its own at any time
Old Bridge Rating: Soft but fresh, a classic example of why Prosecco has become so popular in recent years. There is actually 12 grammes per litre of sugar in the final wine, but there is no sense of sweetness - the balance is spot on
