2010 VIGNA DEL SORBO, Chianti Classico Riserva, Fontodi. Tuscany

Bin:  736

Alcohol percentage:  14%

Organic

Area:

Fontodi is in Panzano, a small village in the very centre of Chianti Classico, the beautiful rolling hills between Florence and Siena. Fontodi’s vineyards are all in the prime area, the ‘Conca d’Oro’ (golden shell).

Grape variety:

80% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in French oak for 15 months.

Producer:

Giovanni Manetti’s family have owned the estate since 1969, investing the money made from their terracotta factory nearby. Everything Giovanni does is meticulously planned to ensure the highest possible quality – rarely have I met such a professional operator (in the best possible sense) in the wine world. All his vineyards are now organic and he is doing trials with biodynamics.
Vigna del Sorbo is a single vineyard wine, blending the indigenous Sangiovese with a small proportion of Cabernet.

Maturity potential:

2022-2032.

Press review:

95 Points, Wine Advocate –
“The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo is a timeless expression that embraces all the canons of great winemaking. This vineyard-designate expression (Sangiovese and a small part of Cabernet Sauvignon are planted here) boasts a delicately floral side in 2010 with dried violets and blue flower that gracefully lift the bouquet. Beyond the floral tones are shadings of cassis, wet earth, anisette and tobacco. Like the other wines of Fontodi, Vigna del Sorbo shows an ethereal side and inner elegance that is impossible to repeat elsewhere. It’s sure to develop bottle complexity over the years.”
