2022 RIESLING, Wieninger. Vienna, Austria

As described by UK agent, Liberty Wines:
“This wine is a blend of Riesling grown in the vineyards of Bisamberg and Nussberg. 65% of the grapes are sourced from Bisamberg, where the soil is comprised of light, sandy loess over limestone, and the remaining 35% is grown on the limestone chalky soils of Nussberg. The Bisamberg fruit delivers apricot-toned characters, while the Nussberg expresses mineral and peach flavours. Blending the fruit from these contrasting sites adds depth and complexity to the final wine.”

100% Riesling; fermented cool in steel tanks and matured for thee months on its lees.

Fritz Wieninger’s 25 hectares of vines are planted on the hills right around the city of Vienna itself. Most of the wines in the area are light and simple, drunk in quantity in the local ‘heurige’ (wine taverns). Wieninger is clearly a cut above, getting real depth and purity in his wines.
