2017 CHIGNIN, J-F Quénard. Savoie, Eastern France
Alcohol Percentage: 12%
Area: Savoie is next to Jura in eastern France, effectively the foothills of the Alps. The style is very much what I would call 'mountain wine'; there's a lightness and delicacy resulting from the altitude (and in particular the cool summer nights that go with that).
Chignin is one of the 'Cru' regions in the area.
Grape Variety: 60 year old Jacquére vines, (a unique local variety), fermented in steel then given 2 months on the lees before bottling.
Producer: A Domaine with roots back to the 17th century. The 18 hectares of vines have been managed by Jean-Francois Quénard since 1987.
Old Bridge Rating: Not 'obvious' in any way, but this is delicate, fine wine of subtle intensity.
