2011 LE CLOS BLANC DE VOUGEOT, 1er Cru, Domaine de la Vougeraie. BurgundyOrganic
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: This is a rarity - a fine 1er Cru White Burgundy, from a 5.5 acre vineyard on the Côte de Nuits (which is 98% Pinot Noir), right next to the world-renowned Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot.
Grape Variety: Most unusually this white Burgundy includes 4% Pinot Gris and 1% Pinot Blanc; matured with the Chardonnay for 14 months in oak (a small proportion of new wood).
Producer: This vineyard has been growing white grapes since 1100. In 1999 it became part of Domaine de la Vougeraie which is a semi-independent part of the Boisset empire. Winemaker is Pierre Vincent.
Old Bridge Rating: Most recently tasted at a fine Chardonnay event at The Old Bridge in April 2018. Remarkable balance of fruit intensity, creamy oak and lively freshness. Still young, but very approachable (will keep for 5 years without problem).
Press Reviews: Best in Show award at Decanter World Wine Awards 2015.
