2016 MEURSAULT, Les Casses-Têtes, Tessier. Burgundy

“Arnaud took over from his father rather earlier than he might have anticipated following his father`s premature death in 2005. He continued to sell off most of the fruit he was producing for the first couple of years as he looked to find his feet. Arnaud is the ultimate artisan, never more at home than when amongst his vines and getting the raw ingredients right was his main priority. Gradually he kept more fruit back and the more wine he bottled the more his reputation grew. This self-perpetuating evolution was no doubt encouraged by his equally hard-working and passionate partner, Catherine. Together they make a great team. Stylistically the wines are much more in the Roulot than the Lafon camp, as they are beautifully stony and mineral, invitingly savoury and vibrant. New oak on the 1ers Crus is at about 30/35%.”

They have half a hectare of 60 year old vines in Les Casses-Têtes, which is at the top of the village, where limestone dominates. The style is generally considered to be very Puligny-like.

A fine, elegant, delicate style of Meursault (not the big, oaky kind of yesteryear).
