2012 SYRAH, Sonnie’s, Sawyer Lindquist. Edna Valley, CaliforniaOrganic
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: Sonnie's is a 40 acre vineyard in Edna Valley in southern San Obispo County (which is in the central coast region between San Fran' and LA; a little north of Santa Barbara).
The vineyard is certified as biodynamic by 'Demeter'.
Grape Variety: 95% Syrah, 5% Marsanne; fermented 70% 'whole cluster'; aged for over a year in French oak (2/3 new wood)
Producer: The vineyard is owned by Bob Lindquist (owner of Qupé winery) and his wife Louisa Sawyer-Lindquist. Qupé were the first ever Rhône specialist in the US and are based in a winery on the Bien Nacido Vineyard, that they share with Jim Clendennen's 'Au Bon Climat'
Old Bridge Rating: A wine of savoury complexity to compare with the very best of the northern Rhône
Press Reviews: "Bob Lindquist shows his mastery of cool-climate fruit with this bottling, which is redolent of asphalt, cracked black pepper, rosemary, lavender and damson plum. It's fairly light in body but strong in tarry structure, offering loads of cracked peppercorn flavor with its juicy purple fruit." The Wine Enthusiast
