2021 SHIRAZ-CINSAUT, Forge Mill. South Africa

40% Shiraz, 40% Cinsaut, 20% Mourvèdre, all fermented at maximum 26C and bottled early (without oak maturation) to retain freshness.

Forge Mill is a label created by Pippa Woods of UK agents Seckford Wines. The wine actually comes from the excellent (and relatively small) co-operative in Riebeek-Casteel, one of the key towns in Swartland area, north of Paarl. It’s a selection of grapes from across the region, made there but shipped in bulk and bottled in the UK.

Really easy-going style with a nice savoury, spicy touch (but none of the earthiness of old-fashioned South African reds). Thank you Pippa for providing us with such great ‘house wine’.
