2015 CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE BLANC, Château du Beaucastel. Rhône
Alcohol Percentage: 14%
Area: Chäteauneuf is of course the big name in the Southern Rhône, but obviously more famous for red than white - only 5% of the vineyard area is white.
Grape Variety: 80% Roussanne, 15% Grenache Blanc, 5% Picardan, Clairette & Bourboulenc; matured for 8 months, one third in wood and the rest in tank
Producer: Beaucastel dates back to 1549 and has been in the same ownership since 1909 (originally the Trannier family, followed by 4 generations of the Perrin family. They have 70 hectares in the north of the appellation (and 30 just outside, making their Coudoulet wines).
Press Reviews: "Light yellow. Mineral-accent orange, melon and poached pear on the highly perfumed nose, backed by a hint of smokiness. Offers juicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors, along with hints of bitter quinine and honey that build slowly with air. Shows impressive depth as well as energy on the finish, which hangs on with strong minerally persistence."
