2019 PINOT NOIR, Villa Wolf. Pfalz, Germany
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: The Pfalz is the southern and warmer section of the Rhine (it's just north of Alsace in France) - producing good reds and Pinot Gris and (by German standards) richer Rieslings.
Grape Variety: Pinot Noir, fermented in steel where half of it remains while the other half is matured in (older) oak barrels for a year.
Producer: Villa Wolf is the Pfalz winery owned by Ernie Loosen whose eponymous estate on the Mosel is one of the great German names.
Old Bridge Rating: Medium-bodied, gentle and soft - with just a hint of the classic earthiness that characterises German Pinot.
Press Reviews: "Very attractive, sweet, floral, approachable cherry and raspberry fruit. Has a sweet, smooth mouthfeel with some silky texture. Lovely approachable Pinot showing some elegance and drinkability, with just a subtle savoury, slightly cedary, herby edge. Nice weight. 90/100" Jamie Goode on wineanorak.com
