2017 SURSIS, Chardonnay, Domaine Tissot. Côtes du Jura Organic
Bin: 337
Alcohol Percentage: 14%
Area: The Jura mountains are a beautiful region in Eastern France, just this side of Switzerland. The hillsides are on the eastern side of the Saone valley, on the other side of which is the Côte d’Or. The wines, while much lesser known than those of Burgundy, have a similar sense of cool climate elegance, but in a lighter, tighter, and often more 'funky' style.
Grape Variety: Aged in oak for a year, 20% new wood. Minimal sulphur, only added at bottling.
Producer: Stéphane Tissot is probably the most esteemed grower in the area. He farms his vineyards not just organically but biodynamically.
He would like his vineyards to be planted with the local Savagnin, so these remaining Chardonnay vines are “en sursis”– French for ‘on borrowed time’.

Old Bridge Rating: An incredible wine. A hint of the richness of white Burgundy, alongside the 'struck match' aromatics so sought-after by Chardonnay producers worldwide. Add to that the saltiness that is unique to the Jura. So powerful and so food-friendly. But only for the true wine enthusiast, prepared to encounter new and unusual flavours.
