2020 DD, Domaine Tissot. Arbois, France

Bin:  348

Alcohol percentage:  13%

Organic

Area:

Arbois is the key wine district in the Jura mountains, the beautiful region in Western France, just this side of Switzerland. The hillsides are on the eastern side of the Saone valley, on the other side of which is the Côte d’Or. The wines, while much lesser known than those of Burgundy, have a similar sense of cool climate elegance, but in a lighter, tighter, and often more ‘funky’ style.

Grape variety:

Around 40% Poulsard, 40% Trousseau and 20% Pinot Noir; fermented and matured in 100-year-old, 2,000 litre foudres (large barrels); no sulphur used.

Producer:

Stéphane Tissot is probably the most esteemed grower in the area. He farms his vineyards not just organically but biodynamically. ‘DD’ is named after his father.

Old Bridge rating:

Aromatic, spritz, grainy, earthy – wild!
