2018 Now finished: JUDEAN HILLS, Tzora Vineyards. Israel

Bin:  588

Alcohol percentage:  14.5%

Area:

The Judean Hills is just 30km east of Jerusalem, but within sight of Tel Aviv on the coast – Israel is not a big country! It’s one of the premium regions, the hills being the first inland from the coastal plain, therefore getting the cool night breezes to temper the hot daytimes.

Grape variety:

Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Merlot; matured for 12 months in French oak.

Producer:

Winemaker at Tzora since 2006 has been Eran Pick, Israel’s first Master of Wine. He uses as a consultant the renowned J-C Berrouet, previously of Château Petrus.
Tzora was founded to make the best wine in Israel and its success was based upon the viticultural expertise of Ronnie James (who died tragically young) to find the best sites for making fine wine.

Old Bridge rating:

One of the most impressive wines of the whole Eastern Mediterranean. This is plush and modern, but with spice, complexity and a genuine ‘sense of place’.
