2012 CABERNET SAUVIGNON, ‘SLV’, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Napa Valley, California (Magnum)

Bin:  893

Alcohol percentage:  14.5%

Area:

Stag’s Leap is the name of both the winery and the sub-district of Napa Valley. This estate and it’s then winemaker Warren Winiarski won worldwide renown when their 1973 won the famous 1976 wine tasting at which California Cabernets were pitted against the five Bordeaux ‘first growths’. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars has maintained exemplary consistency since then.
The Stag’s Leap district is a hillside region just south of Oakville, east of the town of Yountville, and home to some of Napa’s finest reds.
Their two best vineyards, SLV and Fay, are bottled individually.

Grape variety:

100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 20 months in French oak, mostly new oak.

Old Bridge rating:

This is from a parcel of rare ‘large format’ bottles we bought from SLWC. Even semi-mature examples will simply never come along again.

Press review:

“The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. Estate Grown is a beauty. A layered, lush, Pomerol-inspired Cabernet Sauvignon, it offers up notes of Christmas fruitcake, forest floor, underbrush, plums and red and blackcurrants. Sweet tannins, a succulent, fleshy mouthfeel, beautiful concentration and texture, and a long finish result in a sumptuous, irresistible mouthful of Cabernet Sauvignon.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
