2014 POUILLY-LOCHÉ, Les Barres, Clos des Rocs. Burgundy Organic
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5%
Area: Mâcon is the southern section of Burgundy, the warmer climate giving a riper, softer style than the more northerly regions. Pouilly Fuissé is the most famous appellation in the region but both neighbours, Pouilly Loché and Pouilly Vinzelles, can produce equally impressive wine, often at better prices. The former is only 30 hectares in total.
This wine comes from two plots, from vines aged 30 and 70 years.
Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay, 20% fermented in steel, 80% fermented and matured for a year in (used) French oak
Producer: Olivier Giroux bought in 2002 the Domaine Saint-Philibert in Fuissé, in the south of the Mâconnais, and re-named it Domaine Le Clos des Rocs. Average vine age is over 60 years; the estate is 7.5 hectares, now converted to organics.
Old Bridge Rating: Lesser know appellation but outstanding quality; old vines giving great concentration.
