2005 ALOXE-CORTON, Tollot Beaut. Burgundy
Alcohol Percentage: 13%
Area: The hill of Corton may be most famous for the great white Corton-Charlemagne but it also produces a sizeable proportion of red wine made as 'village' Aloxe Corton or Grand Cru (red) Corton. The style tends to be muscular and serious, very different to most Côte de Beaune styles.
Producer: Tollot Beaut have 25 hectares of vineyard spread across Aloxe, Beaune, Chorey (where they are based) and Savigny, producing around 15 different wines in all. They were one of the first small domaines to bottles their wines, in the 1930s. Nathalie Tollot has been winemaker for the last decade. The style is always bright and lively.
Old Bridge Rating: The key here is the vintage - 2005 was a great year for red Burgundy producing long-lived wines. This is just coming to its own now.
